Yongxin Technology (Henan): Ceramic Membrane or Metal Membrane? Three Core Selection Criteria We Sorted Out

Many customers often consult us: my material operates at high temperature with extremely high or low pH value. Which option is more suitable, ceramic membrane tubes or sintered metal powder filter cartridges?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer, as the "optimal choice" depends entirely on the inherent properties of your material. Today we will sort out three key factors to clarify your selection logic.
If the material runs continuously above 200°C, such as high-temperature oil and polymer melts in the petrochemical industry, sintered metal powder filter cartridges are your ideal choice. Sintered stainless steel filters can withstand temperatures of 300°C or even higher, which exceeds the maximum temperature resistance of ceramic materials. When the temperature stays below 100°C, both products are applicable, and you may refer to other indicators for decision-making.

Ceramic materials boast outstanding performance in this aspect. Ceramic membrane filter cartridges made of alumina and zirconia feature excellent resistance to strong acids and alkalis, covering the full pH range of 1 to 14. Metal membrane tubes are also corrosion-resistant, yet 316L stainless steel performs poorly in highly concentrated strong alkali or strongly oxidizing environments. Switching to titanium or Hastelloy materials is required in such scenarios, which will greatly increase costs.

We analyze the inherent traits of your feed fluid — whether it is viscous or contains hard abrasive particles.

Viscous media prone to membrane fouling, such as fermentation broth and oily wastewater, benefit from ceramic membranes whose surface properties are ideal for anti-fouling modification, delivering extended cleaning intervals. For fluids loaded with hard, highly abrasive particles including catalyst slurries and mineral powders, sintered metal filter cartridges offer superior toughness and are less susceptible to brittle fracture.
High temperature, high pressure and heavy abrasion — Metal membrane tubes (316L or titanium series from Yongxin Technology) are recommended first;
